PITTSBURGH (Kedica) – Tributes flow to Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who passed away this morning in South Florida.

He was killed after being hit by a dump truck as he got out of his car and began walking along I-595.

Haskins’ teammates on the Pittsburgh Steelers are in shock and react to the news of his sudden and sudden death.

Ben Roethlisberger called him “a young man who never had a bad day” and said he “enjoyed his passion and love for the game”.

Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph tweeted one word: “Devastating.”

Cornerback Joe Haden tweeted, “Tell your loved ones….Do you love them!!! ❀️ Life is too short!! Rip Dwayne Haskins!”

Steelers wide receiver Deontay Johnson also left a message for his teammate on social media:

β€œI love you bra! You had so much in front of you! Watch out for my family…” Johnson wrote on his Instagram story with a picture of Haskins.

RayRay McCloud III, another wide receiver, wrote “BrahhhhhπŸ˜“”, apparently in reference to a Haskins pass.

Pat Freiermuth wrote “Love Bro❀️” on his Instagram story along with a photo of Haskins.

The Watt brothers also expressed their grief over the loss of their teammate on Twitter.

“The world today has lost a great person,” TJ Watt wrote on Twitter. β€œWhen Dwayne first walked into the locker room, I could tell he was an upbeat guy. He always made people smile, and never took life for granted. His influence on me will be forever.”

“I spent your last moments with you and I can’t help but think how selfless you were in those moments,” Chase Claypool said on Twitter.

β€œSuch heartbreaking news. Went way too soon. Rest in peace Dwayne πŸ™πŸΌβ€ Derek Watt tweeted.

“It doesn’t look real,” Steelers midfielder Alex Highsmith tweeted. “Those who knew him know how special he was. Heartbreaking, RIP Dwayne. May God be with his family.”

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin also released a statement with the Steelers organization, expressing his disbelief and heartbreak at the young player’s death:

“I am devastated, and at a loss for words over the passing of Dwayne Haskins,” said Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin. β€œHe quickly became part of the Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our most dedicated workers, both on the field and in our community. Dwayne was a wonderful teammate, but a wonderful friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Calabria. and his entire family during this difficult time.”

β€œWe are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Dwayne Haskins. I hope he rests in peace,” the Steelers said.

Steelers coach Mike Sullivan, who has worked frequently with Haskins, expressed his condolences and said, “It has been a pleasure seeing him grow and develop.”

His former team, the leaders of Washington and Bucks of Ohio, also issued their condolences.

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of Dwayne Haskins Jr.,” coach Ron Rivera said in a statement on Twitter. “Dwayne has been a talented young man with a long life ahead of him. This is a very sad time and I am honestly at a loss for words. I know I speak for the rest of our cast in saying it will be deeply missed. Our entire team sends our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers to the Haskins family at this time.”

“The NFL family mourns the tragic loss of Dwayne Haskins and we extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Even outside the NFL, many organizations and personalities have expressed their condolences.

“Our thoughts are with the Haskins family, fellow Dwayne and the Steelers nation. The Penguins responded in a tweet to the Steelers’ announcement, “Our thoughts are with you all.”

β€œWe join the Pittsburgh community in mourning the tragic loss of Dwayne Haskins. Our hearts are with the Haskins family and the entire Steelers organization,” the hacker tweeted.

“Our thoughts are with Dwayne’s family after this devastating loss,” UPMC tweeted.

β€œThe City of Pittsburgh mourns the sudden death of Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins. β€œOur thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the entire Steelers organization,” Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Jenny said on Twitter.

Former quarterback Pete Kenny Pickett, who had a room with Haskins at a youth soccer camp, also weighed in:

Prior to the Penguins-Capitals game at the PPG Paints Arena, the Penguins held a minute’s silence in front of the Haskins.

Some athletes criticized the wording of Shifter’s original tweet, which noted that he “was struggling to catch up with Washington and Pittsburgh in the NFL.”
