A new study which has been published in the American Journal of Epidemiology says that the 30 minutes of exercise a day can counteract the impact that an entire day of sitting has on your health. This new study contradicts a previous study by CNN which found that sitting for prolonged periods is so harmful that even exercise cannot help your health.
The latest research was carried out in the Columbia University Irving medical center. It was conducted based on the data of a previous study which continued for 5 years from 2009 to 2013. That study had 7999 participants who were healthy and above 45 years of age. The physical activity of these individuals was monitored for 4 days in a week.
For the purpose of this new study data of those individuals was analyzed. It was found that only 30 minutes of physical activity could combat the effects of sitting for long hours a day. Staying active was shown to reduce the risk of an early death by 17% whereas this risk was cut down by 35% among those who engaged in moderate to high intensity workout sessions.
