When it comes to body shaming, it seems the world has still not advanced. Despite the modernization of recent years, there are still more leg-pullers than there are well-wishers. People are more concerned with someone’s shortcomings rather than their positive points. And the bad remarks sent your way hurt even if you are the most sought-after model of Hollywood.
Over the years, there have been hateful remarks aimed at Gigi Hadid for her fluctuating body weight. When she entered the industry, the then 17-year-old was dubbed heavy by some. Then later, when her weight melted off, some people started calling her too skinny.
On Sunday, the diva took to Twitter to quiet down the bad commenters. In a series of tweets, she explained the cause and effect of the disease that she struggled with. She wrote, “For those of you so determined to come up w why my body has changed over the years, you may not know that when I started @ 17 I was not yet diagnosed w/Hashimoto’s disease; those of u who called me “too big for the industry” were seeing inflammation & water retention due to that.”
The next tweets continued, “Over the last few years I’ve been properly medicated to help symptoms including those, as well as extreme fatigue, metabolism issues, body’s ability to retain heat, etc … I was also part of a holistic medical trial that helped my thyroid levels balance out.”
For those of you so determined to come up w why my body has changed over the years, you may not know that when I started @ 17 I was not yet diagnosed w/Hashimoto’s disease; those of u who called me “too big for the industry” were seeing inflammation & water retention due to that.

“Although stress & excessive travel can also affect the body, I have always eaten the same, my body just handles it differently now that my health is better. I may be “too skinny” for u, honestly this skinny isn’t what I want to be, but I feel healthier internally and (cont)” “(cont) am still learning and growing with my body everyday, as everyone is.”
It’s utterly sad that she actually felt the need to clarify. Most people think that it is okay to pick on someone else even though they’re far from flawless themselves. Not only did she explain the reason as to why her weight kept changing but she also shut down all those who have implied that she is skinny because of excess drug usage.
She further added that this was it and she wouldn’t clarify any more. Like the motivator she is, she also gave a golden piece of advice. It’s high-time people actually follow this one.
“I will not further explain the way my body looks, just as anyone, with a body type that doesnt suit ur “beauty” expectation, shouldnt have to. Not to judge others, but drugs are not my thing, stop putting me in that box just because u dont understand the way my body has matured.”
“Please, as social media users & human beings in general, learn to have more empathy for others and know that you never really know the whole story. Use your energy to lift those that you admire rather than be cruel to those u don’t.”
With this Gigi tackled one really important issue; she told people to learn to encourage others and stop with the ragging. The Victoria’s Secret model is one of the highest paid ones in the industry. Not only that but she is known for her stunning looks. She has often been asked for tips to maintain beauty.
Gigi it’s so sad that in this day in age we still feel like we need to defend the way we look, what we eat or don’t eat. You are gorgeous, smart and successfully and people are jealous and intimidated by you. Keep doing you 🌸

You don’t need people’s judgement. Everyone is prefect the way they are and shouldn’t have to be justifying the way they look

When the elder Hadid girl took to the social media platform to give an explanation with regards to her body, a lot of fellow celebrities came forward to support her. A lot of fans also came forward to tell her what an inspiration she was. Let’s hope that with time, we learn to appreciate the good in people than nitpicking some flaw that doesn’t even exist to yank them down. More power to Gigi Hadid!
Can’t wait to see you in Milan. Sorry you too have to explain something so ridiculous to people. Love to you. Love to the people who try to tear down others also because they are just people who haven’t had the spiritual growth that needs to occur to love and accept one another.
