Everyone has low points. You are not alone in your struggle with mental health issues. Boy bander Liam Payne just revealed how, back when One Direction was intact, he felt suffocated and how basically behind a happy smile and a mesmerizing voice, he often found himself hiding his real self and needing a break.

The Strip That Down singer, in his latest interview with The Sun, talked about how the audience could not see beyond the happy face he put up on stage when in truth he was having trouble finding space for himself. He said, “Going out and putting that happy smile on my face and singing the songs, honestly, sometimes it was like putting on one of those costumes.”

The 1D songster also mentioned how at the highest points of their band he fought demons of his own. He talked about the pressure of constantly being on the run and not being able to have time for one’s own self. “It was like, ‘Oh, you’ve just won three EMAs, but get on the plane and go to the next place,’” explained the star.

He revealed that his band needed a break as they weren’t able to enjoy something they loved to do due to the consistent effort that it required. The One Direction lads couldn’t create music and enjoy the beauty of it and hence they needed a break. That because of these things they were not able to connect with each other as bandmates.

Liam told The Sun, “We needed a realization point to find the love for (singing) again, rather than it just becoming a job.” The singer-songwriter talked about how at one point he let the monsters get to him and 1D had to cancel a show in Belfast in 2015. That was when he had just broken up with Sophia Smith.

This 1D member is not the only one who has talked about mental health issues. Dusk till Dawn singer Zayn Malik had also talked about his anxiety problem. Liam Payne is now doing lots better since he’s been making solo music.

We’re proud that these celebs have come forward and discussed a problem this big and are contributing to clearing off the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
