Like in the case of a ketogenic diet, a lazy diet can also cause keto flu. This occurs when the body is transitioning to using fats for energy production in place of its usual source of carbohydrates. This can cause energy depletion, fatigue, dizziness, and nausea as symptoms.

As mentioned above, the benefits of the lazy keto diet, or any ketogenic diet, are attributed to ketosis. However, it is very much possible that lazy keto diet followers may never reach this stage. This happens because while the lazy keto diet seems comparatively convenient, it doesn’t monitor protein or fat intake.

This means that if you consume too many proteins, ketosis may never be achieved as the body converts proteins into glucose, which is a carbohydrate, through gluconeogenesis. The lazy keto diet can also cause nutrient deprivation since it pays no attention to the quality of foods one is consuming. Diet needs to be well-balanced for proper health after all.

Calorie intake is cut down to a huge level which means many nutrient needs may be left unmet. Again, since fat consumption is not monitored, people may consume unhealthy fats which can damage heart health in the long term even if they do manage to lose excess pounds. Should you go for a lazy keto diet?

A lazy keto diet may or may not help a person lose weight. This is because if it fails to achieve the state of ketosis, all the benefits associated with it go down the drain. There’s not much research on this diet, however, if it succeeds at achieving ketosis, it can benefit health through weight loss and appetite control.

At the same time though, a number of drawbacks are linked to this diet. It can increase the risk of heart disease and must be followed by diabetic patients with caution as it can take blood sugar levels really low. It can also cause nutrient deficiencies.

If you do intend to follow the lazy keto diet, you should first consult a dietician. Moreover, get your medication adjusted if you have diabetes. Know that such a diet can only be followed in the short run, not for the long run.
