The thing about fashion is that it is always running. Sometimes forward and sometimes backward, often in a circle. The trends that we thought we wouldn’t be seeing again, the trends that made us cringe just a few years back, are now ruling in all their glory. Couture houses like Alexander Wang, Gucci, and others have rebirthed them and now we’ll be seeing vintage fashion making rounds in our vicinity this year.

The key, however, is to keep it to a minimal. You’re sure to nail the freak look if you go for all-vintage; checkered overalls with vintage makeup and scrunchies. That’s not the way to do it. You’ve got to brew a cocktail of retro and modern with a sprinkle of your personal style for max sass. Wondering what is back from the vintage era? Here’s a list of trends from the 80’s that are so 2018!

Overalls

Denim overalls, whether long or short, are totally in. This outfit choice can be rocked with a number of footwear options. So, it definitely is a versatile piece that allows you to style it the way you like. Jason Wu along with Phillip Lim have reintroduced this trend whereas celebrities like Alessandra Ambrosio have also rocked it. Wolves songstress and fashion icon Selena Gomez was also seen out and about in denim overalls recently. Not to ignore, overalls will make for a lovely summer styling number.

Ruffles

Layers and layers of frill are in vogue. And there is no denying this. The awards’ ceremonies that have happened so far this year are proof. Ruffles were seen several times on Rihanna last year when she proved that she was utterly obsessed with them. Dua Lipa, Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, and other actresses, soon jumped on the bandwagon earlier this year. You can rock the trend in a high-low hemline dress, or in the form of a mini frock. Either way, you’re sure to mesmerize with all those princess vibes.

Print on print

Like a slow growing plant, spreading its roots further and further, the print on print trend has taken over. Only a little while back a print on another mismatched print was a big no-no. Now if two prints go together, you can pair them rock a cute look. Stripes and florals, or plaid and polka dots; the choice is yours. Just make sure that both the prints that you choose to wear together complement each other. Also, summers are the perfect time to rock the print pattern mashup trend.

Sequins

Shine had made an entry last year and ever since it just doesn’t seem to be in the mood of walking back into the closet. Now, it has taken the form of sequins. Sequined graphics on handbags, on shoes, and on clothes. Jennifer Lawrence was seen rocking sequins on the red carpet of the Oscars this year in a Dior gown. Nicole Kidman was also seen at the SAG Awards rocking an entirely sequin-adorned dress. Tom Ford, Gucci, and Chanel among many others have had models showcase sequined ensembles down the runway.

Pastels

Pastel shades have the limelight to themselves this year. Looks like dark and serious colors have jumped out the window for a cigar break in 2018. With spring in full swing, there is no denying that pastels would make for a classy and chic choice. Model Kiai Gerber has rocked the color and so have many more. Margot Robbie was recently spotted in a pastel pink Mui Mui gown at the SAG Awards. Camila Cabello rocked a powder blue Ralph and Russo number at the Brit Awards this year. Saoirse Ronan wore a pastel pink Calvin Klein gown to the Oscars’ after party too.

Checks

The checkered print is also back in fashion town and you know the best way to rock it is by going for a blazer or a scarf. The trend is best made by Burberry with it being its signature print, and this fashion brand stands undefeated in the territory of check prints this year as well. You can pair checks with another print that goes with it or keep it simple with colors like white and black. You are sure to leave a strong impression either way. Madelaine Petsch was spotted in a check print at the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Chunky shoes

When Balenciaga resurrected the chunky sole trend last year, it might have attracted a lot of eye-rolls, but it garnered even more sales! Their chunky sneakers were called “dad sneakers” yet so many fashion labels followed the hint and made their own versions of the style. But it’s not only chunky sneakers that are in trend; thick-soled sandals are also totally voguish these days. There’s no denying that the thickness makes walking more comfortable too.

Fringes

Give your wardrobe a fringe makeover this year. Handbags, tops, and dresses are all being reinvented to include fringe details. Need one more reason to go for fringes? Queen of all things sassy and snazzy, Rihanna has also sported fringes. Olga Kurylenko was seen in a stunning fringe gown at the British Independent Film Awards in December. Elizabeth Banks wore a metallic fringe outfit at the Oscars’ after party 2018. Wonder Woman star, Gal Gadot also rocked a Givenchy gown with fringe details at the Oscars this year.

High-waisted denim

Here’s another trend that you can rock this year. That of high-waisted denim. Whether you’re sporting a pair of shorts or jeans, skinny jeans, or cropped ones, a high waist is something that you should sport. Not only does the style keep you comfortable and modest but it also outlines your physique in a flattering manner. The hip-hugging trend has been seen on Emily Ratajkowski too. Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid have also given their thumbs up to the trend.

Slip dresses

Slip dresses might seem like only night suits but celebrities and fashion shows say otherwise. Louis Vuitton brought the trend back from the dead on its runway for this year. Amber Heard was seen in a classy slip dress this year giving major styling inspiration. Other brands have also constructed pastel slip dresses that you can wear on a night out. Mandy Moore was seen in a slip dress by Ralph Lauren at the SAG Awards. A daring yet effortless style.

Metallics

Sparkle is in so of course metallics are too! The high-shine fabric has been seen on several celebrities and on several runways. Chrissy Teigen rocked a silver metallic dress at the Grammy’s this year. Gal Gadot’s Givenchy gown at the Oscars and J. Law’s sequined one were both metallic. Allison Janney wore a metallic floor-length maxi dress at the SAG Awards this year. Even clutch bags and boots in metallics are in trend.

Crop tops

We’d thought that crop tops will not be making their way back again but oh, well! Though, they don’t fail at looking ultra-cool. Sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid have rocked the crop top trend. Kendall Jenner has been a fan of it too since last year. However, this one is only for those who have the abs to rock it. With a pair of denim jeans and sneakers, the look is undeniably chic. Former Disney actress Selena Gomez has also been seen in crop tops this year.
