We don’t need numbers to understand that lots of us are tossing and turning in our beds. Needless to say, multiple people suffer the consequences of sleeping poorly. As per a survey by the National Sleep Foundation, 45% of the Americans say that insufficient or poor sleep has affected their daily life at least once in the past week.
So, any chance or tip or trick that can help us sleep better will be nothing short of a miracle. The speedy process referred in this article that can help you fetch quicker zzz is a tactic used by the US Army. It first appeared in the 1981 book Relax and Win: Championship Performance and worked for 96% of the Navy pilots after six practice weeks.
It works by relaxing yourself entirely starting from the top to the tip of your toes. So, let’s begin:
- Commence by relaxing every face muscle and moving down from your forehead to the jaw
- Drop one shoulder, followed by another while relaxing as much as you can. Repeat the same with your upper and lower arms
- Proceed this relaxation protocol to your lower body. All this while, consciously relax each muscle as you breathe in and out deeply
- As soon as you reach your toes, spend 10 seconds attempting to empty your mind. You can do so by visualizing either lying in a canoe on a lack while staring at a blue sky or lying on a velvet, black hammock in a dark room
Hopefully, this will help you fall asleep. If you find it hard to imagine the images mentioned above, then you can try following the mantra mentioned by The Independent. Repeat to yourself, “don’t think, don’t think, don’t think” for roughly ten seconds.
It is important to note that this tactic may take some time to work but every new habit takes time settling in and getting cozy. So, give it at least a fortnight or a week to yield results.
