Riverdale’s unnamed spinoff series about Sabrina Spellman (aka our favorite comic and cartoon character) has finally found its navigating character. And the chosen actress is better than what fans were expecting. It’s not Selena Gomez, but don’t let that break your heart. Because the selected celeb fits the role even better; it’s Mad Man alum Kiernan Shipka.

She’s pretty, she’s petite, she’s blonde. She’s 18 and no one could have made a better Sabrina than her. The minds behind this two-season, twenty-episode show that would be starring on Netflix now, had a lot of actresses in mind but Shipka won the vote of the majority and emerged as the top choice.

About her casting Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Riverdale executive producer, said, “We’re all such huge fans of Kiernan’s work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone’s wish list.” He further said, “This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we’re incredibly excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own.”

While Jon Goldwater, Archie Comics CEO, had this to add: “I am thrilled that Kiernan is playing Sabrina and have no doubt that she will embody the strength, courage, and boldness that has made the character a fan favorite.” Not only is Shipka a talented actor but she is also so pretty and so fun that the audience will surely be obsessed with her.

Kiernan’s casting has people all the more excited for this dark Sabrina series. In an interview with W Magazine Shipka had revealed that she, like all us 90’s kids, is a Harry Potter fan. So she’s relatable too! And from the look of her retweet announcing her casting with exclamation marks, she is prolly just as excited to play Spellman as we are for her.
