You know that feeling when you open a book and magic spirals out like the smoke from coals? You drink it in, you breathe it until the book becomes a part of you and you become a part of the book. Reading is like that; it grips you, it takes it you away. It hypnotizes you until your mom comes and pulls you back to reality.
Unfortunately, not everyone understands that. Had every single human been able to appreciate the beauty of reading, the world would have been a far better place.
Oh, hey, don’t cringe, I’m not talking about textbooks. I am talking about novels. If you understand the pleasure of reading, then you are at the right place. With holidays coming up, every nerd must be prepared. Prepared to hole up on his couch with a fat book and a mug of coffee. The cozy vibes.
Here is a list of books that you can delve into this winter season. If you haven’t already read these books, you should consider adding them to your TBR pile.
The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury
Love blends with fantasy in this retelling of Aladdin. Khoury takes your hand and walks you through magnificent palaces and majestic gardens, in a world that is lush with imagination. You don’t have an annoying Jinni in this version nor do you have Jasmine.
The lead character and narrator Zahra is the Jinni herself who wants nothing more than she wants freedom. But when Aladdin discovers her, she realizes that she wants him above all. Trust me, the romance will not make you gag. Instead, it will fill you with longing for the boyfriend you don’t even have.
Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo
Two are better than one. This duology by Leigh Bardugo has managed to become a crazy hit. If you are a nerd and you haven’t heard of Kaz Brekker, are you really a novel ninja at all? We’ve all read about heroes but in Bardugo’s Six Of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, which is the second book of the two, you get to see cons conning people for a huge stack of money.
The mission they are at seems impossible, but these six misfits actually fit together pretty well. If you’re the sort of person who loves badass action, enjoys solid world building and is up for a crazy lot of characters, this duology is for you.
The Remnant Chronicles Trilogy by Mary E. Pearson
Even though we ladies never accept it in public, we love nothing more than stories that involve fugitive brides who have escaped their own marriages. Even better when the story involves kingdoms, politics, and well, of course, love.
The Remnant Chronicles is a trilogy with the first book named The Kiss Of Deception, the second one The Heart Of Betrayal and the third The Beauty Of Darkness. This series is sure to fill your heart with longing with its intense writing and scenes that make your heart hammer with the mystery of it all.
An Ember In The Ashes Series by Sabaa Tahir
Two are better than one but three are better than two and four are better than three. Only when it comes to books though. Sabaa’s series has only two books out up till now with the third one coming out next year. They say these books are the next “Game Of Thrones.”
Fantasy at its best, this series is about empires at war, and three characters struggling with their fates and hearts. The first book is called An Ember In The Ashes and its successor is A Torch Against The Night. Also, the first part one will be made into a movie soon.
