Just caught the whiff of a rumor spinning around; Jake Gyllenhaal might be tying the black cape and responding to the bat signal in Matt Reeve’s The Batman. Don’t know about you but we’re clapping to this news like retarded seals because c’mon who is better than Gyllenhaal? No one!

With all the unfavorable news running in circles around Ben Affleck and him stepping down from the role of director for the next Batman movie, reports say that the star is looking for ways he can gracefully walk out of the acting department for the superhero movie as well.

Though the news of Affleck’s departure is not even confirmed yet, word says that Gyllenhaal is already standing in the queue as a replacement. After Justice League failed to stretch as many content smiles on the faces of the viewers and the box office, the move does seem to be inevitable.

Things are different now but last year at Comic-Con, Affleck had clearly said, “Let me be clear. I’m the luckiest guy. Batman is the coolest f—— part in any universe – DC, Marvel. I’m so excited to do it. I think there’s this misconception that because I’m not directing it I’m not doing it, but I’m so excited to be Batman.” So nothing can be said about any part of this news yet.

According to John Campea, Gyllenhaal has met with Reeves but nothing can be said for sure. In his own words, “There has been some conversations, but it’s not a sure thing this is happening. It’s not a lock, it may not happen.” The Love and Other Drugs star has been linked with becoming a superhero one day before as well (think Spiderman) so his addition to the DC universe would be a welcomed one.

Neither Reeves nor Gyllenhaal have shared anything on this topic yet, but people sure have their views. Some are unsure about the 36-year-old’s ability to breathe life into Batman’s character pondering whether he would be able to carry on batman’s legacy of being a grizzly, brooding individual.

While others (like us) know that Gyllenhaal can take up any role; from that of a weird thief to that of a muscled boxer to that of a detective with a bulging belly. He’s done it all; lover, soldier, oh, and not to forget that guy can also be a prince! So really is Batman a role that he wouldn’t be able to do justice to? The man has an Academy Award listed on his achievement’s list as well.

Director Reeves has had Gyllenhaal on his list for quite a while now. The Brokeback Mountain actor had also auditioned for Batman Begins. But, even though DC has time and again exhibited its interest in Jake Gyllenhaal, the question does arise; will Gyllenhaal readily take up the spot? He didn’t seem to be all that up for the rumors that related him to Marvel.

In an interview with Metro last year, he had said, “I just don’t think I would fit there. As I get older I am much less interested in hoping people see me in a certain way and more interested in just doing whatever I’m doing. They can like it or not. This is where I am.” He had also carefully stepped right across the role of Rick Flag without even letting his toes touch it when Tom Hardy had left the project.

The shooting of the movie starts in summer 2018 and by then we’ll know whether Affleck would continue, or Gyllenhaal would take the role of Batman. Till then, let’s all wait.
