Remember last year when Balenciaga was grilled on Twitter for the platform crocs that the brand had introduced? Well, surprisingly those very crocs are doing so well that the pieces have all sold out even before they were released and despite the fact that they carry a huge price tag of $850.
Designed by Demna Gvasalia for Balenciaga, these crocs have a 10 cm platform heel, are embellished with dinky baubles, and come in pastel shades. The foamy shoes were put up on Barney’s website for pre-sale on the 1st of this month, and guess what? They ran out in just a matter of a few hours.
While talking about this innovative shoe, Gvasalia had said, “It’s light, it’s a one-piece foam mould and to me, these kind of techniques and working with these kind of materials is very Balenciaga.” Retro with a twist of modish, these foamy, slip-in shoes have people going crazy!
Though only a few months back, this very pair had people questioning. Twitter was part enraged that such a thing could exist, and part baffled with the hilarity of it all. However, Balenciaga has proved that it is not going to stop being a trendsetter.
The world is divided; some think that it is the designer label that is making them a thing while others think of these platform crocs as truly creative. To some, these are aesthetically pleasing while to others not quite. Some think these must be comfy while others think they would be difficult to walk in.
However, it must be noted that though a few designers did try to bring crocs back before as well, none of them could succeed in doing so. These Balenciaga platform crocs have made their place in the hearts of the majority. And they don’t seem to be in the mood of scooting over.
