Exfoliation is an important step in your skin beauty regime. Your responsibilities toward your skin do not end at washing it with a top-notch facewash and gently patting it dry. So you use makeup and remove it with a nice makeup remover but that is not all. There is more that your skin demands and there is more that you need to give it in order to keep it glowing and healthy. And that more is spelled as exfoliating your skin.

Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells and other impurities from your skin. It also brightens the complexion and makes your skin healthy from inside out. The philosophy is pretty simple. When you live in your house, you just don’t leave the litter on the surface, right? You clean up the mess and throw it away. The same is with your skin. The daily wear and tear contribute to dead cells and you really cannot let the impurities lie there, you have to get rid of it for a perfectly clean look.

As the market is loaded with products that are packed with chemicals and irritant fragrants, here are some natural ingredients that can help you exfoliate your skin.

  1. Baking Soda

Baking soda is a common ingredient lying around in your house that has a plethora of advantages to add to its skills set besides just raising the dough. It is commonly used as an exfoliator in several products that line the market shelves. So while it is in those chemical driven formulae, shouldn’t it make it directly in your skin care cabinet?

The natural ingredient helps to remove dead skin cells, dirt and oil from the skin. In the process, it also unclogs the pores and keeps skin conditions like acne at bay. The best part is that baking soda is not a racist when it comes to skin types; it works best on all types of skins free from any discriminatory behavior.

You can exfoliate by making a paste of the soda with water or honey. Simply rub a tablespoon of the paste on the face in a circular motion, rinse, and wash with a liquid soap.

  1. Milk

Just when you thought that milk was a thing of the past princess like Cleopatra, you will be amazed to find it among the top natural exfoliating ingredients. While we have all heard a string of praises about milk when it comes to getting strong bones and extra strength, what we don’t know is that it is also a pro exfoliator. The lactic acid in milk helps to remove dead skin cells from the face. To use it, pour a small amount on your palm and massage it into your skin.

For best results, whole milk can be combined with aloe vera for sensitive skin or with an egg (whipped) for dry skin.

  1. Coffee

Coffee is the king when it comes to exfoliation. It is a natural exfoliator that removes dead cells and brightens the complexion. In fact, coffee is such an effective ingredient that it inspired the key idea an online startup, Frank Body.

The ingredient is an expert body exfoliating agent too. Ground coffee is frequently used to treat cellulite and can also help combat stretch marks.

  1. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a gentle exfoliator that will help save the day for those who battle with sensitive skin. It is highly moisturizing and boasts anti-inflammatory properties. The uses of oats as a natural exfoliator are not limited to facial scrubs only but it can be used as a gentle body scrub too.

All you have to do is mix finely ground oatmeal with honey, kefir, or buttermilk. Apply the paste and rub it in a circular motion on your face. Let it sit for 15-30 minutes more, rinse, and you are good to go.
